Penny trained as a registered nurse at St Thomas' Hospital in London.  She then had a nursing career of over twenty years, which included working in the specialities of women's health, community and palliative care.  Her most recent nusing posts included working at Lancaster's St John's Hospice, as a Team Leader for Marie Curie Cancer Care, and as a community Macmillan Nurse.  During this time she gained a variety of experience and qualifications, including teaching and assessing in health care, pain and symptom management. counselling skills, a diploma in health care practice and a BSc (Hons) in Palliative Care.

Having developed an interest in complementary health care, Penny attended the Foundation Course in Acupuncture, held at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, by the British Medical Acupuncture Society.  This was then followed by a three year course at Salford University to gain a BSc(Hons) degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture).  This course involved in depth study of the theory of acupuncture and clincal experience in the acupuncture clinic at the university. 

Penny has undertaken a post graduate course at the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in China.  Other post graduate training has included  acupuncture for women's health, pregnancy and cosmetic acupuncture.

Having knowledge and experience of both western and traditional chinese medicine has led to Penny developing a philosophy that supports the integration of both models, according to the need of the individual.
